Opening: Dolcenero Gelato, Santa Monica
Dolcenero Gelato just opened on Main Street, Santa Monica
Fans of Italian gelato, rejoice! Los Angeles now has another great place for a delicious mid-afternoon treat, or merenda as the Italians put it. After being “soft-open” for about a month, Dolcenero Gelato is now officially open to the public.
Simone Acciai, Nicola Cambuli, and Francesca Mallus came from Italy on a mission to spread their passion for gelato on the West Coast (by the way… how does gelato differ from ice-cream?). With a daily-made selection of classic and creative flavors, Dolcenero will give you another reason to visit the bustling dining and shopping district of Main Street, Santa Monica, a few blocks from the beach and the Sunday Farmers Market.
The first impressions of Dolcenero are definitely positive. Their gelato is solid and well-executed. It may not be the best gelato (or ice-cream) of your life, but it’s what you would get from a good gelateria in Italy. With the difference that, here, you can go enjoy your cone in front of the ocean. Special mention for the pistachio flavor. If you feel more creative, go for mascarpone cake.
