Celebrating 10 Years of Taste of Italy: Spotlight Puglia!
This year the spotlight is on Puglia, the “heel” of Italy’s “boot,” aka il tacco d’Italia, which has recently become one of the country’s trendiest tourist destinations. Puglia is known for its ancient villages, exceptional wines and olive oils, breathtaking beaches (bluest sea), almost year-round sunshine, and its exceptional cuisine.
We at Foodiamo could not be more excited to sponsor this celebration of authentic Italian cuisine highlighting the historic immigration of the Pugliesi people to Los Angeles, who brought their food, wine, and traditions beginning in the late 1800s.
Among the 40+ attending establishments, we highlight The Drago family and their restaurants Drago Centro, Via Alloro, and Celestino, putting their own twists on classic Italian dishes such as their hand-cranked, garganelli pasta with Sicilian sausage and wild fennel pollen; Luigi al Teatro, run by Puglia native Luigi Fineo, presenting a modern interpretation of classic flavors from Southern Italy; Di Stefano Cheese, run by Mimmo Bruno and his family who’ve been making burrata with a 100-year-old recipe that has its roots in Puglia. And finally, also hailing from Puglia, the award-winning, pizzaiolo Vito Iacopelli of Prova Pizzeria, who will prepare his signature pizzas crafted in a mobile wood-burning oven.

The immigration of Puglia culture to LA will also be represented by East Side Italian Market and Maestro Sausage, two family-owned companies that were founded by immigrants from Puglia in Los Angeles’ Historic Little Italy in the North Broadway District, nearly 100 years ago.
Toscana Restaurant and Primo Italia will also be presenting Puglia-inspired favorites, such as orecchiette al pomodoro.
Among Tuscany’s most celebrated chefs, Aurelio Barattini will travel from his historic trattoria in Lucca, L’Antica Locanda di Sesto, which dates to 1368, and has been in his family for a century. Chef Barattini uses only ingredients sourced from the family farm and other local producers.

Drinks and Live Entertainment at Taste of Italy 2018
Dozens of world-class wines and spirits will be served by vendors such as Gruppo I Vinai, Pallino Limoncello, Banfi, and DOCG Imports. There will be a charming beer garden, courtesy of Birra Moretti, Italy’s signature beer produced using a process unchanged since 1859. Guests will get to try their luck at a game of bocce in the Birra Moretti Bocce Court.
Taste of Italy’s entertainment lineup includes performances by celebrated jazz guitarist John Pisano, Nick D’Egidio and the Dry Martini Orchestra, the fifteen-member Verdi Chorus, and DJLo.
“Taste of Italy offers an authentic Italian experience in the heart of downtown Los Angeles,” explains Marianna Gatto, historian and executive director of the IAMLA, “Guests can enjoy exceptional Italian cuisine, wine, and good cheer in a charming, historic setting. The event offers a glimpse of the region’s extensive Italian history and contemporary Italian lifestyle while supporting the Italian American Museum of Los Angeles.”
