Guess what, Yvonne Strahovski is crazy about arancini! Plus, five more things you didn't know about the star of 'The Handmaid’s Tale'

In the Food Talks series, we interview celebrities on their favorite Italian restaurants, wines, recipes… Because Hollywood people love Italian food just like anyone else!

I know you know who she is. Killer attitude, smirking smile, blonde hair…. Born and raised in Australia, Yvonne Jacqueline Strahovski started her acting career in theatrical plays in school, falling in love with the “acting bug” at a very young age.

I know you saw her striking beauty & humor in one of my favorite guilty pleasures, a tv show called ‘Chuck’, where she played CIA agent Sarah Walker. I saw and followed her again in her next big tv roles, first as the lethal killer Hannah McKay in ‘Dexter’ and later on as Agent Kate Morgan in ’24: Live Another Day’.

Now we meet again for the presentation of ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’, a Hulu production created by Bruce Miller and based on the dystopian novel by Canadian author Margaret Atwood. The series also stars Elisabeth Moss and Joseph Fiennes. First we find out she is a strong supporter of animal rights and PETA’s campaigns, then it is time for our Food Talks.

  1. I have Italian connections. “One of my Polish cousins married a Sicilian. Their family lives in Catania. The history of the city is amazing, Catania is a beautiful city, don’t miss Piazza Duomo, Il Palazzo degli Elefanti and because I love theatre, go visit Teatro Massimo Bellini. I like the sicilian baroque style of the city.”
  2. Why I love Italian food. “Italian food is my favorite food, because no matter what recipe you are going to try or what kind of ingredients you are going to cook, you know that the quality in an Italian kitchen always comes first. I love pasta and pizza, but the best food to eat in Catania is arancini. I like them all, but my fav are the classic al sugo, and I prefer them shaped like a pyramid”.
  3. My third language would be… “If I had time to learn a thrid language it would be Italian, it sounds good to my ears. I’ve been surrounded by Italians my whole life, I grew up in Australia with my two best friends and their Italian families. I love the culture, the spirit, the passion and how they live life”.
  4. My favorite drink. I love Italian wine, but my signature drink is a shot of vodka. I have a Polish heritage after all!”
  5. I wish I could…“Know how to make cannoli siciliani with crushed pistachios. Heavenly delicious”.
  6. I’m passionate about food. “Let’s keep corporations out of our food. Let’s not accept food made from plants or animals with genetic material that can change the integrity of what we put in our body. We need to know what’s inside the food we eat”.
